Our Team

Krystina Castella

Krystina brings her deep understanding of product design and business to her role as the founder of DEN. Her experience includes building and selling her own manufacturing and licensing company which internationally distributed dozens of products she designed. She has also advised and educated hundreds of companies on product development and licensing. 

Krystina has 30 years of academic experience as a Professor and Faculty Director of Business and Professional Development at Art Center College of Design as well UCLA and many other academic institutions. Her research and teaching centers around designing for children and youth, the intersection between design and ethical business, sustainable materials and manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

She is the author of Designing for Kids: Creating for Playing, Learning and Growing (Routledge Publishing) and eleven other books.

Brian Boyl

Brian brings his diverse background in UI/UX design, experience design, software development, and visual storytelling to each project. He is a leading authority on UI/UX design, and author of the internationally acclaimed book Interaction for Designers: How to Make Things People Love published by Routledge Publishing. 

Brian has worked as a user-interface designer for 3D animation systems, an information architect the US State Department, a web designer and developer, a game producer for Nintendo, and software developer for the exploratory system that would become the Sony PSX. He has worked with Toyota, Microsoft, Google, HP, HTC, Silicon Graphics, Price-Waterhouse, Philips, and Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

He has taught for over 30 years at UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount, and at ArtCenter College of Design, where he founded the Visual Interaction Design and Motion Design areas. He is currently a professor and the Director of the Visual Interaction Design Area of Emphasis at ArtCenter.
